Greg Giraldo: The King of Comedy Gigs!

When you think of the name Greg Giraldo, you should automatically think of him of being so smart and technical with his jokes. Greg was always very real and shared his personal issues with the crowd. When he would book comedy gigs, he took it as a challenge for him to display himself to the world.

We think that Greg Giraldo was an amazing comedian and person and just had some bumps in the road. He grew up in Queens, as a young man went to Columbia University, his grades were so good that he got into Harvard Law School. In the 1st year, he disliked the business and quit. He decides that he wants to land comedy gigs and learn how to be a comedian.

Greg started his career as a comedian, and set out to be the best and fun along the way. Throughout his career a few time, he was very intense and aired out his dealings with his wife, and personal issues with drugs and alcohol. He used comedy gigs as a way to release his personality and make people laugh.

To understand his character, one night in 1993. Greg’s friend Jeffrey Ross was in a incident in a club in Long Island involving one of the audiences member waving a toy gun that looked real and Ross on stage jumped on him and got arrested. Greg volunteered his services as his lawyer as a favor. The case ended up getting dismissed after due process. Greg and Jeffrey would stay friends and later perform on comedy gigs together. In 2002, he left behind comedy gigs and went to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba  and performed at the United States Naval Base on the USO Tour.
In his career as a comedian he worked extra hard to be creative and make jokes that were not only hilarious but really intelligent. He entered comedy gigs to escape reality and perform comedy, that was his ultimate goal. Landing comedy gigs with some of the greatest comedians:

Greg went on to create new stand up cd’s and become a regular roaster on Comedy Central’s Special Roasts. These Roasts include:

  • William Shatner
  • Pam Anderson

Greg felt like he won his big break when his was cast as a judge in Last Comic Standing on NBC. He continued creating comedy and releasing cd’s and performed at comedy gigs and tours. On September 25, 2010, Greg Giraldo accidentally overdosed. The officers soon released that Greg died four days later from an excess of prescription medication. He was 44. Following his death, his legend lives on by all who who knew him. There were many tributes and even a song made from Blues Traveler lead singer John Popper.
